Our Name — 木 × Wood

Mowood takes its name from two words for the same thing — moku (木, wood in Japanese) and wood in English, the "mo" drawn from the first syllable. A nod to warmth, natural craft, and the quiet beauty of the Pacific Northwest, blended with the Japanese sensibility that runs through everything we make. Two cultures, one root.

From Farm to Cup — The Journey of Matcha

MOWOOD sources ceremonial grade matcha produced through a six-stage process rooted in Japanese tea tradition.

01 — The Farm · 茶園

Tea bushes stretch across misty hillsides in quiet rows. Weeks before harvest, shade nets cover the fields, slowing growth and deepening the green that defines matcha.

02 — The Harvest · 採摘

Only the youngest buds are picked by hand. One bud, two leaves. This single choice shapes everything that follows.

03 — The Steaming · 蒸青

Fresh leaves are steamed within seconds of picking. A brief pulse of heat locks in color and nutrients, stopping oxidation before it starts.

04 — The Stone Mill · 石臼

Granite mills turn slowly, producing just forty grams per hour. The low speed keeps the powder cool, preserving its delicate flavor and bright color.

05 — The Whisking · 点茶

A small pour of water, worked into a thick paste. Then more water, and the chasen moves in rapid W-strokes until the surface becomes a smooth, mirror-like green.

06 — Your Cup · 一碗

Every step leads to the same place: the arc of green light in your cup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade of matcha does MOWOOD use?

We use ceremonial grade matcha — the highest grade, stone-milled slowly from shade-grown tea leaves. It's meant to be drunk straight or with milk, not baked with. The color is a deep, vivid green. The taste is clean and slightly sweet, with no bitterness when prepared correctly.

How is MOWOOD's matcha different from Starbucks?

Starbucks matcha is a sweetened powder blend — it contains sugar as its first ingredient. Ours is unsweetened ceremonial grade matcha. We control the sweetness ourselves so you can taste the actual tea.

Do you have caffeine-free options?

Matcha and coffee both contain caffeine. Our smoothies (Strawberry Skin Glow and Coconut Pineapple Glow) are caffeine-free. If you're sensitive to caffeine, those are your orders.

Where is MOWOOD located, and is there parking?

We're at 16595 Redmond Way, Suite 165, Redmond WA 98052 — inside the Eastline building near downtown Redmond. 2-hour free parking validation available in the building garage. Street parking is available on Cleveland Street.
